Fabric Zingers of the Week: Dutch Door Press for Kokka

It took me about a year, and owning multiple yards of this Kokka fabric to realize that it was designed by Dutch Door Press, an SF-based letterpress company that I've adored for ages. Duh!

I bought this California print last year at Renegade and I love it, although I never, ever see any quail. Have you ever seen your state bird?

Every time I think Kokka has made the best fabric of all time, they go ahead and do it again. This is BRUTAL, I tell you! I think they are out to destroy me. Available at Fabricworm.

Colorways

This is one of the weirdest colorways I've ever seen, which is why I love/hate it. It also reminds me of playing King's Quest games, thoughts of which always make me happy. Man, I loved those games! Oh, and this fabric is available at Superbuzzy, who always deserve a shoutout. I can't believe it's been a year since I visited. Time flies!

Just picked up this fabric at Stonemountain and daughters. The phones are huge; what should I make with this stuff? I'm thinking a giant tote bag, a pillow, or using the phones for iron-ons. Ideas, please!

Generally speaking, I'm on a fabric-buying moratorium, as I have so much stockpiled and haven't been doing any sewing lately at all. But this was too good. Reminds me of Andy Warhol's shoe sketches.

Sunday Stash!

I couldn't resist this fabric. I am currently making an Amy Butler bag with it; results soon in my shop. In other news, I'm watching The 'Burbs and drinking iced tea with one Sweet 'n Low. I know the saccharine is killing me, but I don't care. A woman has to have some vices.

Whew, I just made it! This new Kokka fabric is the best; from making little dolls to appliqueing on everything. I'd like to have yards and yards of it, but as I am both poor and cheap, I only have a half-yard.

Oops. I'm a little late on this one, but it's been a hard, hard week. I wish it was still last Sunday! Anyway, I think this Kokka fabric would work really well on a large totebag with contrasting red/brown for handles or trim. Yes?

Sunday Stash!

Thanks to my new blogamigo Chantry, I'm now introducing yet another Sunday feature, Sunday Stash. This is when people with absurd amounts of fabric showcase a favorite every Sunday! I totally fit into this category, so here goes!

This fabric is a new addition to my stash, from the fine folks at Superbuzzy, who have unequaled taste in zakka. I call it my depression-fighting fabric, because it's all about being mindful of the little things, like tea time and good books and cute birds.

If I can ever bring myself to cut into it, I might make a tiny quilt with little squares for each activity/reminder. Can you think of any other ideas?

I came home from my visit to my parents' house to discover that Peter had bought me a gigantic box of craft supplies, clearly from someone's deceased grandmother. It included crochet needles of all sizes, tons of beads, felt, vintage hankies, and clothespins. So naturally, I looked up "clothespin dolls." This is the first thing I found.

How can I top this? Is there even any point? My heart is swelling with cute.

Happy Presidents' Day!

There's a difference between "sleeping in" and "sleeping until your back hurts and body aches and bedsores form." I might have leaned toward the latter during this three-day weekend, but dammit, that's how I roll.

I had a lovely Valentine's Day which included the aforementioned sleeping in, a first-time viewing of Robocop (a pleasant surprise!), and a ton of mini-hamburgers accompanied by a Kir Royale in Alameda. I am in love with Alameda, probably because it reminds me a lot of San Luis Obispo. I feel comfortable in cities that have a "main street."

Here is some awesome fabric that I think is super-weird; again, what can I make with this? I think a throw pillow might be in order.
