I am beginning to get bold with my small talk at work. As I was ringing up a woman's purchase today, I said, "Boy, these are some fantastic tweezers," as I placed them in the bag. I also told a customer that I didn't care about what a slow cashier I am because I place great emphasis on customer service. And I have glorious banter with this bike messenger who always buys one pear, one carrot, a yogurt, and a tiny bag of cherry vanilla granola. Oh, the banality!

I also look at people's hands. I like men's wedding rings better than women's, I think; I'd rather have a plain gold band than some garish diamond cluster. But then, I once claimed that I would never carry a purse, and now I own at least 20. The joys of womanhood are many and mysterious.
