I've eaten so much this weekend, I don't even know where to begin. It all began on Friday night, when Natalie and I were in a celebratory mood and drove out to Hoppe's in Cayucos, where we experienced some truly fine dining. We started the night off with kir royales, shared an appetizer of coconut shrimp and a quail salad (yes, very gamy, quail), then a half-bottle of the most awesome wine. For our entree, we split the boulliabase, topped with a frog leg for each of us. For the record, frog tastes much better than quail.
Every once in a while, it feels good to spare no expense, and this time, it was totally worth it. Best non-romantic date ever. Actually, best date ever, period.

This afternoon, my family and I headed in the opposite direction, to Jocko's in Nipomo. Jocko's is an infamous steakhouse, and I was warned that upon first sight, the decor might be a little shocking to my ever-so-refined tastes. "Ha," I said, "What kind of snob do you think I am?" My family said, "You'll see." Man, they were right. The dining area is basically a bunch of cafeteria tables with folding chairs, but damn, the steaks are huge and excellent.

Right now I'm watching the made-for-tv-movie about Elvis, starring uber-hottie Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I'm not that into Elvis culture; all the coffee mugs and commemorative postage stamps, but I love the story of Elvis. He was such a bizarre character, but a man after my own heart; a lover of Dr. Pepper, animal print furniture, and crispy slices of bacon by the plateful.

I'm glad to know that even though we are apart we still share the same spirit. Though I cannot to have eaten such delicious food. Actually I am quite a hillbilly in the food departament, but it was always nice that you could be so diverse that we could have culinary adventures that most anyone would have found alarming, such as the evening that you and I went out an dhad crepes and wine only to finish the evening with chili burgers and beer. I relish these moments that are for the time being, postponed. I look forward to our shared old-age when we will eat as we damn well please, and no one will be able to touch us, due to the strenght of our cast iron stomachs, that even science will be at a loss to replicate.

My mother went to Hoppes today for Mother's Day. I find it odd that I've never heard of this place until twice today.

My dearest Pols, I too was salivating over the uber hot Jonathon Rhys Meyers as Elvis. Truly a colaboration I never thought would happen.
