Steps in the right direction...

So, things are looking up. I have a job in my field. I'm moving to the cutest neighborhood with the cutest boy, and I figured out a way for my hair to look okay without spending money on a haircut.
Last week I started working at a tutoring center, as an "essay consultant." I get to help high school seniors make their college application essays better. It's the kind of thing I was born to do, it pays well, and so far, I think I'm doing all right. Working with these kids who have to answer cheesy questions like "What are your three greatest qualities, how would others describe you, what are your goals," etc, I can't help but be reminded of my own goals, and the fact that I'm kind of doing exactly what I want to be doing right now.

After having no luck all month, Peter and I had ten days to find and move into an apartment. Things were getting ugly. Then, within a few hours, the stars aligned, we saw the perfect place, I wrote a check, and the deed was done. We will be living in an adorable (albeit crooked) apartment in the charming neighborhood of Piedmont, in Oakland. It's a old, old little building, with all kinds of funny built-ins, a sunroom, a front and back porch, and a clawfoot tub. I'm trying to let myself bask in the sheer luck of it all, but you know me.

We got the keys on Wednesyda and wandered around our new hood, which has a natural food store, millions of salons and boutiques, a Starbucks and an independent coffee shop, bookstores, antique shops, a gelato parlor, a European grocery, and a motherfucking tiki bar! I nearly cried as I sipped on my mai tai, pawing through the bags of Russian candy I bought.

I can't wait to move.

that sounds so sweet! I'm so excited for you

how is the market you mentioned European? Is it old, smelly and has bidet(s) next to the parmalat?

I wish I had two coins to smash together so I could send you candy money. Soon.
