Can't Fight This Feeling Anymoooore...

The events in my life lately seem to be pushing me in an unexpected direction, and I've decided to stop fighting and embrace it! I'm speaking specifically about my lack of a full-time job. I've been feeling uncomfortable, guilty, and just plain lame for not being a full-time employee since graduating well over a year ago. But as alternate opportunities have started compounding into a shaky, cobbled-together career, I'm starting to realize that it is possible to do what I'm doing and feel proud of it.

I'm not sure when I came up with the expectation that I should be sitting in a cubicle, doing something I don't love, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with money and the repayment of student loans. But by temping one to two weeks out of the month, and diligently doing Etsy the rest of the time, I can make a reasonable salary. I got this book, The Anti 9-5 Guide, which is awesome! It's really helpful and down-to-earth without being cheesy, and after reading it, I feel much more empowered in my non-traditional situation. The book has great advice about being a good temp, getting organized, and how to work from home without taking too many naps during your working hours.

That said, I'm starting a new temp job tomorrow, with the explicit instruction: no Internet browsing! Apparently the last temp was removed from the job because they were sucking all the bandwidth or whatever away from the actual employees. Oops! Guess I'll be bringing a book.

Good luck at your new job! I think I may have to check out that book. I've been out in the working world for over 7 years since graduating doing the 9 to 5 thing for most of it and it has become really tiresome. I think I'm ready to shake it up a bit!
