campari

I really want to like Campari. It's such a pretty color, and classy people from the past drink it. I want to like it so much that I bought a bottle of it the other day. I figured, I've grown into being able to sip a little glass of Frenet Branca, and that stuff tastes like toothpaste and wood. Unfortunately, Campari still tastes pretty much like poison to me. I've been experimenting and the most I can handle is just a mere dash thrown into a glass of iced sparkling water with lemon. How do people drink Negronis with such relish? Blarf! Alas, I fear I will never be so fancy. Here are a couple of cocktails that sound so appealing, except for the fact that they contain Campari.

A million times agreed! That crap is the bitterest of the bitter. I can't even deal with it.

Why is it so hard to drink why????? I want to love it too. I've had luck with putting it with orange san pellegrino or orange juice. it seems to mellow it out a bit.

It is so beautiful and classy! I think a Campari and soda was the first cocktail I ordered when we went to Europe for Brit Lit and could drink in bars. I was so disappointed at how horrible it tasted, but I choked it down. Also super-gross (to me) is Cynar, but is is sick and brown so not as appealing.

Agreed! I also despise Campari's evil cousin, Aperol. Blech!

Can't stand Campari either! Have you had Lillet? It's my favorite and it totally feels classy, just pour some over ice and throw in a little orange twist.
