Manhattan

Oooh, you guys, I love a good Manhattan, but I've never tried to make one at home until now, using this basic recipe. Not too shabby, although it isn't quite as exciting in a tiny espresso mug as it might be in a martini glass. Manhattans remind me of the glory days drinking with my dear friends at Wilf's, one of the less hip bars in Portland, but a glorious place where we could play glamorous dress-up just for each other, drink cheap Manhattans, and enjoy the genteel clientele (generally a smattering of elderly peeps there to enjoy the famed Bananas Foster).
me in the stripes; note fur coat on the floor
We went to Wilf's monthly to enjoy the piano stylings of a gent whose name escapes me now; it felt like our own private club and we were treated like VIP's every time. Boy, were we lucky!

It looks like Wilf's has updated a bit according to their snazzy new website, but I'll remember $4.00 Manhattans, the Wilf's Breeze, and having a little corner of the world where a bunch of lowly servicefolks got to be the glamorous, glorious people that we always dreamed of.

Oh Polly. Well, there are now tears in my eyes. What a lovely post, remembering the good times. Rotten Potatoes?

Awww! I know. I got a little teary writing it. Truly, it was unreal that we had this time together! Also, ROTTEN POTATOES. Do you remember any other tidbits from that night, potato-wise? Quotes would be good.

Well, there was "My parents were always so mean to me, and never let me drive, but his wonderful man taught me how to drive and never said anything mean to me, or called me anything like rotten potatoes". Sadly I remember nothing else except the 40 YEAR age difference and that the guy worked at the post office with Scott's dad and everything thought he was super weird.

This post is killing me. Just last week I friended Sean the bartender from Wilf's.

I remember she said her parents called her Rotten Potatoes when she didn't even deserve it.

I will assume there were times when she truly was behaving like Rotten Potatoes, though we may never know if they called her out at those times.

I would like a poll on what kind of behavior constitutes "rotten potatoes".

I feel like rotten potatoes behavior is kind of sulky and ungrateful? Does that make sense?
