Hey gang! I just wanted to clue y'all in to the fact that a very special movie is now available on Netflix Watch Instantly for your lazy Sunday matinee!
I've mentioned The Ruling Class on here before; and it's a weird and haunting and hilarious piece of art. Here's a preview, but it doesn't really offer any insight on the range of insanity that you will see if you watch the whole movie. Seriously.
No, seriously. It's got auto-erotic asphyxiation, slapstick comedy, a murder mystery, lots of dry British humor, and more Peter O'Toole than you can shake a stick at.
If you do end up watching it, and find yourself asking, "What the hell was that?" here's a helpful article about the historical/theatrical context. Then we can have a fun conversation about whether it was more influenced by the Theater of Cruelty or Theater of the Absurd! I'm ready!

I love watching kids/people learn, and I've gotten to see/do a lot of learning in the last two days. As I mentioned before, I'm working as a mentor with the Mentor Artists Playwrights Project. Under the tutelage of the awesome Thomas Kellogg, creator of the program, ten theater artists and ten teenagers work together to create ten one-act plays in a week.
It's only the end of day two, and already my mind is blown at how excited these surly kids are getting about the power of their own imaginations. They're coming up with some crazy awesome stuff, and I feel really lucky to be there to witness it.
Guess what? Being a teacher is infinitely more fulfilling than data entry. Noted for future reference.
Also, I found this image on a gossip blog today and stole it for your pleasure. I am trying to drink less and generally experience good health, coupled with the fact that I'm too poor to maintain blondeness, so I guess the sentiment is true.

My friend , talented artist Alyssa Ravenwood, recommended me to teach for a week at an organization called the Mentor Artists Playwrights Project. I'll be helping some Native American kids to write short plays about their lives. This will be the first time I'll be employed to use the skills of both my chosen disciplines, theater and writing, and I'm super excited!
