Sexy, sexy, sexy, hilarious, and captivating! I love "To Have and Have Not" because, firstly, it's set in a hotel and on boats, and movies set in hotels or on boats tend to have qualities that I enjoy (Titanic not included.) Lauren Bacall is even sexier in this than in The Big Sleep, if you can believe that. Brutal. Hoagy Carmichael plays the piano. Shifty characters abound. And lastly, this film asks the eternal question: "Was you ever bit by a dead bee?" From a story by Hemingway and another screenplay penned by Faulkner, To Have and Have Not is yet another film noir that I have deemed "totally NOT boring." Dig it.
