3:10 to Awesometown

I think being thrown into things is the best way for me to learn. Two weeks ago, if you told me I was going to have teenagers actually listening to me, I wouldn't have believed it. I am no great authority figure. But all of a sudden I'm able to fill an hour talking to a kid about his college essay. I'm pretty happy about that.

I also did something really healthy today, something I haven't done in a long time. I made a really elaborate birthday package for my brother's girlfriend. For some reason (and I apologize to anyone who has recently suffered the effects of this) I've been so mired in my own panicky obsessions that I haven't done very much for other people in a long time. I think back to junior college, when I was always making cookies, remembering birthdays, and actually calling people back. I want to be that person again. I do not want to be the person who sleeps 14 hours a night. I'm working on it.

In other news, I highly recommend the new Western 3:10 to Yuma. Good times! I rented Once Upon a Time in the West, and after watching it twice, I think I can safely say that I wasn't that into it. I fear this may be blasphemous, and I did get a kick out of a few scenes, but generally: bleh. Somebody tell me what's wrong with me and maybe I'll change my tune.

I just now had the pleasure of catching up on your blog and the two things that stick out are the $8 milkshake (only in California) and the Power Exchange. Wow. Miss you! Anne
