Something awful happened. Someone close to me and my family was violently assaulted in their home this morning. I cannot express how devastated, helpless, and angry I'm feeling right now, as this person, like anyone else who is a victim of this kind of crime, absolutely did not deserve it.

I am heartbroken at the changes that will have to happen in order for her to begin healing. I'm still in shock. And, not surprisingly, my faith in humanity is pretty shaken right now. Who would do something like this? Whenever I think of it, I start crying. I can't imagine how she feels.

I've also been reminded that no woman (or person, really) is ever totally safe, which is something that's easy to forget. Bad stuff happens, and then we have to deal with the aftermath.

I don't even know if I should be posting this on my blog. It's no one's business, which is a question that always comes up when I post something personal here. But life isn't all cupcakes and cute fabrics. Apparently, it's totally unfair.

polly: this happened to my mother a few years ago. as women, we need to be aware that yes, the world is a scary place and that no, we are never (even, especially, at home) completely safe. have patience with your friend, give them what you can, what they will accept, and always always be aware.
